Why PEX

We repipe in REHAU PEX-a.

For most whole-home repipes, PEX delivers the same reliable water service for typically 30–40% less than copper, installs faster with fewer joints — and every joint you remove is a leak point you never have to worry about. We use REHAU PEX-a specifically: the most flexible, freeze-tolerant PEX on the market, a real advantage in a Gulf Coast home. Copper still has its place, and we'll give you the honest trade-offs rather than a canned answer.

Repipe Risk & Cost — Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this a Streamlined Plumbing repipe quote?
No. The dollar figures are typical national 2026 ranges published by third-party cost guides, shown so you can read any repipe quote informed — they are not our price. Your real number depends on your home's layout, how the pipe is accessed (open crawlspace vs. behind finished walls or under a slab), and what a camera inspection finds. We give you an upfront, itemized price on site before any work starts. Call (251) 423-7654.
  • Why is polybutylene flagged as high risk?
Polybutylene is the gray or blue plastic supply pipe installed in roughly 10 million U.S. homes from about 1978 to 1995, before a landmark class-action settlement pulled it from the market. It grows brittle and can crack without warning, its usual life is only 10–15 years, and many insurers now refuse to cover homes that still have it. The industry recommendation is a full replacement rather than waiting for the failure — so if your home is in that window, it's worth confirming the material.
  • How long do the different pipe materials last?
Typical industry-consensus ranges: galvanized steel 20–50 years (often failing at 40–50 and causing rusty water and low pressure); copper 50–70+ years; CPVC 50–75 years; PEX about 25–50 years (roughly 40 typical); and polybutylene only 10–15 years, with replacement strongly recommended. Streamlined installs REHAU PEX-a — the most flexible, freeze-tolerant PEX, with fewer fittings and fewer potential leak points.
  • Why does Streamlined install PEX instead of copper?
For most whole-home repipes, PEX gives you the same reliable water service for typically 30–40% less than copper, installs faster with fewer joints (each joint is a potential leak point), and tolerates our Gulf Coast conditions well. We use REHAU PEX-a specifically. Copper still has its place, and we'll give you the honest trade-offs for your home rather than a one-size-fits-all answer.
  • When does a repipe make more sense than another patch?
When you're patching leak after leak, seeing rusty or discolored water, or watching pressure drop across the whole house, the pipe is usually failing as a system — and patching just resets the clock on the next leak. A camera-inspected diagnosis tells us whether a targeted water line repair will do it or whether a whole-home repipe is the smarter spend. We'll show you what we find and give you the straight math.
